Excavation is the part of a project most people never see, but it's what keeps patios level, plantings healthy, and basements dry. The sections below cover the residential excavation work we do: on its own to fix a specific problem, or as the first phase of a larger design-build project.
When water pools in the yard or runs toward the house, the problem is almost always grading. We reshape the ground so water moves where it should: away from the foundation, off the patio, and out of the low spots that turn into mud. Proper grading is the foundation every healthy landscape depends on.
Reclaiming an overgrown corner of the property (or clearing space for a new patio, addition, or planting area) starts with removing what's in the way. We clear brush, undergrowth, and small trees and haul it off, leaving a clean, workable site ready for the next phase of the project.
Some water problems need more than regrading. A French drain gives water a path to follow underground: a gravel-filled trench and perforated pipe that collects water and carries it away from wet areas, soggy lawns, and foundations. We install them where surface grading alone can't solve the issue.
Settling, ruts, erosion, and damage from past projects can leave a property uneven and worn. We repair and restore these areas (filling, regrading, and reestablishing the ground) so the lawn and surrounding property are level, stable, and ready to grow or build on again.
For larger lots with heavy overgrowth, brush hogging clears tall grass, weeds, and dense brush fast. It's the efficient way to take back an unused field or wooded edge, knock down a season's worth of growth, and get a property to a manageable starting point for further work or upkeep.
A drainage garden solves a water problem and looks good doing it. By shaping a planted, low-lying area that captures and absorbs runoff, we turn a chronically wet spot into an attractive, functional feature, managing water naturally while adding to the landscape instead of detracting from it.

Sometimes the answer is regrading a low area; sometimes it's a French drain or a combination of approaches. When excavation is the first phase of a larger landscape project, we plan the drainage and grading around the patios, walls, and plantings that will follow, so the site work and the finished design fit together from the start.
